JRD Languages Tuition

Background & Education

Born and raised in Leeds, I loved language learning from the moment I had my first French lesson at school aged 11! Spurred on by a Grade A in GCSE French I continued to A Level, whilst at the same time studying GCSE Spanish in my free periods and lunch breaks (yes - I really did and still do love languages!).

More top grades followed and in 1994 I started to study for a BA Joint Honours French & Hispanic Studies degree at the University of Nottingham, achieving a 2:1. My third year was spent living and working in the beautiful town of Segovia, followed by 2 months working in France.

Employment & Family

Many of my tutees are often surprised to hear that I wasn't always a teacher! On leaving university, I worked in the travel industry, followed by 6 years crunching numbers in the Soft Drinks Industry for Coca Cola and Diageo. Having taken a career break to look after my 3 children, I was ready for a fresh challenge, so in 2013 I successfully applied for teacher-training. I qualified as a Secondary MFL teacher in 2014 and then spent a few years gaining experience of teaching at KS3 and KS4 level in the classroom.

JRD Languages Tuition

As a mainstream teacher, I loved helping students to grow in confidence and achieve good grades, but realised I could achieve so much more on a one-to-one basis. In 2018, having left the classroom, I founded Jenna Doidge Languages Tuition, tutoring 10-18 year olds in French and Spanish.

Whilst building the business, I also worked for 3 years with excluded students from a Pupil Referral Unit, which gave me more in-depth experience of working with students with SEND and SEMH.

Jenna Doidge Languages Tuition went fully online during the pandemic and became my full-time job in March 2021. It really is a great job and I feel very fortunate to be able to share my passion for languages and education with students who want support to reach their potential.
